My name is Dave Collins. 16 year veteran with the Box Brothers Corporation.
My positions and duties within the company Are varied and widespread. I have successfully and profitably ran just about every store in the South bay and the West Side.
Some of them from the ground up.
Having been apart of the Box Brother family for so many years, it has been a pleasure to work for this organization. And a privilege helping, and solving the problems and dilemmas of the vast clients that have come thru my doors. I have and continue to exhibit a passion for helping our clients that come to us, no matter what their needs my be. Weather it’s helping them to purchase the correct boxes for their move advising them on how to pack, What is safe and how NOT to pack things. Advising them on what they need and doing my best to save them money and time on what is already a stressful venture.
To Packing and shipping items for clients. Making sure that they get the best deal on their packaging services, while giving them the expertise’s of my knowledge for the safest pack possible. I view every pack job as if it were MY most valuable item that I own. Weather it’s a standard popcorn pack or a 2” foam crating job. Each and every individual pack job is done with caution and care, packing with extreme prejudice to any foresight of damage occurring. And to offer the best rate and service with the carriers we use. Weather it’s UPS, Fed-ex, Freight or Postal. It is a personal guarantee that the client will be offered the most economical method of shipping that suites their needs. Making sure that they understand the pros and cons of each carrier relating to the items that they need shipped. This is a passion that I find enjoyable to offer. The type of service that I would want to be offered if needed. And the type of service that I in my personal experiences find to be missing in most customer service oriented businesses. Which segways into my next topic. Budget Truck rentals.

It has been my pleasure to work in the Inglewood Warehouse, as Sales and Office Manager. Getting to know a different side of the business, and working with some extraordinary people, such as Marianna Carlson, the Operations Supervisor, Lead Sales person and Fine Art Guru. Who has been a great teacher and mentor in this side of the business. Her professionalism and knowledge on business dealings are inspirational to say the least.
I have been given the task of learning the Budget rental system. And these are my thoughts. First and foremost we as a company need to focus on our side of the business, which is Box Brothers. The amount of work that is needed to tend to the Budget program far outweighs the compensation that we would get. Basically it goes as follows.
* Quote to client – 5-10 min. (2 e-pages to fill out) / *Reservation for client – 10-15 min. (5 e-pages to fill out) / actual day of renting – 10-15 min. (5 e-pages to fill out.)
Between 2 and 3 forms that the client needs to fill out upon actual delivery. The trucks need to be inspected with every rental. Damage inspection, proper working of the lights, tire pressure, oil and fluids. As well as the tow vehicles. Weekly mailings of the documentation of rentals, and if receiving cash, weekly bank deposits.All this for a average of $75 - $125 on the high end per rental?
When Clients call up, or even inquire about a truck rental, we need to stay focused on who WE ARE. Box Brothers. If theirs any reason why I would want to rent a truck it is only so the client dose not have to experience the dealings and attitude that I have personally experienced first hand on how Budget employees treat their clients. It is not about the service, but is about taking their money. As my rep. was trying to help me understand how to rent a vehicle, OUR customer requirements were not met as per her requests. She did not get the correct truck, their were issues in how she was paying and so fourth. At first my Rep. told her that they had the correct truck in Long Beach, and she would have to travel their to pick it up. So she would have to go 30 miles out of her way for their mistake, and after that statement he followed it with, and that will be $1089…He was finally coursed into having the truck brought here from Long Beach, And I said to him in front of our customer, “Now that’s good customer service, and working with your customer.” Still no discount for her for the inconvince. I would of matched the price and gotten the job if she did not have to tow her vehicle. That was the only reason she did not go with us. And we would have taken care of her. The only reason why I would want to rent trucks is so clients can be taken care of by Box Brother employees with some kind of decency and not by what I saw was the standard of a Budget rental employee. We should in no way automatically try to rent a truck to any one. We should first and foremost try to sell our services to the customer. With the full knowledge and selling point that even if we are more expensive then a truck rental, (And you will be surprised how expensive it is) our services are far superior and we will do all the work and will do it professionally. http://www.boxbros.com/small-moves
On local moves our prices are just about the same. And we do it all for the client. On long distance we are a little higher but again, we do it all along with professional packaging. It’s well worth a couple of hundred dollars more to have some one else do it and do it right. Example. A 16’ truck (Two bedrooms) to Georgia is about $2000. These are jobs that Box Brothers should be getting, that Box Brothers should be selling, and any rental is a final and last ditch effort for the customer. Just keep in mind, theirs a lot of work in it for a little compensation.. 16 year veteran with the Box Brothers Corporation.
