Today, I received a call from a potential vendor who wanted to know if I was interested in
a box making machine, that could do small, very small runs. Like 10 of a size.
The entire 25 years we have been in business selling boxes to the public, there is always a situation, which happens pretty frequently, that a customer needs a box size that is either not
in stock or not even made.
This happens, quite a bit, as I said, as a lot of firms have boxes made to fit their products and
they are custom, so to speak. We have access, as Box Brothers, to over 1200 different size boxes, that we can get and even though our retail locations are not large, we stock well over 200 different box sizes in all of our stores, and we sell over 400 different products that relate to boxing, packaging and crating, not to mention the shipping services we offer.
I say this since our stores resemble our competitors, but there is a huge difference between us and our competitors. If a customer needs a box, and we do not have it in stock, we will make the customer a custom box for his needs, right there on the spot.
Getting back to my story, this vendor calls me up and tells me that he sells small box making equipment. While we do sell a lot of boxes, we have not ever been involved in the manufacturing side, and never thought it would be for us. We are more customer oriented, like a service business that sells products. Anyway, this vendor has been going to several box retailers, and he asked 10 of them if they could get him a size box they did not stock, but only 10 pieces.
Not one of them was able to do anything other than offer their next closest size. Since when is it
good service to sell you pants that are too big or shoes than do not fit, as this is bad service.
Not at Box Brothers. You will always get what you need, even if we have to make it. In fact, this is not even an issue for us and it is our standard operating procedure (SOP) for all of our stores.
I just wish the rest of the world knew this and they could all start to shot at Box Brothers, where service and price, are always a package deal.
