Food Challenge at Thanksgiving...Some Thoughts

For many of us, it is hard to even believe that this wonderful family holiday is now here. Maybe it is me, but this past year, has, seemed to go by quickly, at least on a macro level.

On a micro, day to day level, I am one who is glad this 2011 is coming to an end, as it has been
trying financially, economically and it seems that many in our society feel the need to protest
(for lack of a better label..) how things are going down in our nation and in this world, now called
a global economy.

I, for one, have no idea what is going on out there, nor have I any true understanding how we got to this place, as a nation. We see demonstrations in cities in America, and around the world, but not in the world's most populous country, and our biggest foreign trading partner, China. Nor do we see this same turmoil in Iran, Russia or Cuba.......and that is my point.

NO one here, as difficult as things are compared to times in the past, would leave this great
country and go live in China, or Russia, Cuba or Iran, where you cannot protest anything without
risking your life and your family's. We take this for granted, for sure.

The amazing thing about this holiday, is that to me, it is a "melting pot enhancer." I know, what
the heck is a melting pot enhancer? Good question.

As a child of immigrants to this country (my parents and brother came to the United States after
World War II), I know that many people from far away lands, do not always find America's rich
traditions familiar. However, I can't remember when our family ever failed to celebrate this holiday and used it as a way to give thanks for what we had as a family. I know my parents
only wanted a better life for their children and family than they had in Europe, and their great hope for the future, was somehow embodied in this American Holiday.

Today, everyone seems to celebrate this day with family and that is why this is such a special day and while many of us wish for better times, I think we all have a duty to just stop and take
some time to show some appreciation for all the special gifts we have. We have so much to be
thankful for, and surely, better times for all should be around the corner, but in a little way, it
starts with each and everyone of us.

So I challenge all of you to do something for someone else in the coming days. It can be saying
hello, or simply thanking someone for being who they are. I always try to overcome my frustration, and I am not very good at it all the time, but at times like this, I am going to try
harder to show my appreciation for what I have in my life and to say thanks to those who have
been there and who have made the difference, in a good way, for so many others.

This is why, I am also proud to announce that starting on Monday, November 28th, at all Box Brothers Locations, any food donations customers bring in, until the first of the year (2012),
customers will receive a coupon for up to 20% off all air shipping and all packaging services
we provide at all of our retail outlets. In addition, Box Brothers locations will hand out free
Move for Hunger Boxes to customers so that they can package their donations and bring them
in to any Box Brothers location for drop off. We will then extend to you our discount coupon offers, and arrange for all the food to go to the the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, Sofa
Pantry and the Central Ave Corridor Food Bank, as well.

In this time of need, we want to stand tall and respect not only those in our community who might need a little assistance, but to stand up against hunger, as this is one of those things in life that we can all make better by extending ourselves to others who have a greater need.

Let all join together and make this holiday season the best one for everyone, in the true spirit of giving.

I guess I have taken the first step, and I challenge all of my people here at Box Brothers to do the same and I wish this message goes far and deep, so we can help to fight hunger in our great land. God Bless America, and Have a Great Thanksgiving.

CMSA Los Angeles Chapter Meeting 2-8-11

For those of you that don't know what the CMSA is = California Moving and Storage Association.... Box Brothers has been a member of this organization for 20 years.... What many of you don't know, is that the President of Box Brothers used to be a Chapter President.... Over the past 10 years I have been attending these meetings on my own with help from Dan Wagner or Bill Carter up in the Bay Area.... Last night I had the opportunity to go with Mark Frydman and found out just how much Mark knows about the industry..... It wasn't his knowledge on the history of the moving industry that stood out to me, it was his willingness to get a new chapter member introduced to the "old schoolers" so this young kid could feel welcomed while promoting his new moving company....
http://www.boxbros.com/furniture-moves I heard stories about Bekins in the 70's.... How they used to be all union workers..... A Union strike that made a lot of those Bekins employees go off and start the many moving companies of today that we all know... I've met Paul Bekins a son of the Bekins family... He owns Bekins North West Atlas in the Seattle area... They're a very interesting family and their name is still one of the biggest movers in the industry... The stories I heard at the meeting were just amazing.... The moving industry is made up of hard working entrepreneur's that had to build their empire off of sweat and tears....
I have a new appreciation of who Mark Frydman truly is..... His ability to talk, "as we all have heard his stories", to everybody in the room and give true advice on business and on life... I am proud to be a part of his team and know that our Company is run by a man with so much knowledge, that actually cares about the other companies and people in this industry..... We all know he gets upset from time to time but he does care about everybody that works for Box Brothers... I'm off to San Diego to attend the CMSA San Diego Chapter Meeting with our new franchisee Charlie and his brother Ryan in Ranch Bernardo, Ca....... http://www.boxbros.com/

Urban Cowboy...

Cowboy is in the land of surfers...... I told him that surfing is just as dangerous as bull riding.... The oceans a mean place and if you're not careful the riptides will carry you out to sea... We will not be going into the waters........

Box Bros Los Angeles....

This week my travels have taken me to Los Angeles California...... The Box Brothers Inglewood Warehouse is working diligently building crates and processing tons of auctions items ready to be transported to their final destination.... I have brought with me Cowboy from our Las Vegas division..... I'm hoping the extra hands have helped the staff here in Inglewood...... It was great to see Ray from Box bros Santa Monica 1 location........ He came into the warehouse to follow up on the ton of items they picked up from an event on Saturday..... I appreciate the fact that he took the time to say hello to everybody in the warehouse.... Always good to see Ray!!!! Marianna is running around like crazy while conducting an efficient operation..... Her quality control on the art handling is unmatched within our corporation.... I hope all the store managers know that Bryan and Marianna are always available for questions concerning freight shipments and crating concerns.... They will Blog later on ways to load oversees containers......

More Jay Leno Harley photos.....

These are photos from Box Bros Oakland...

Jay Leno Harley....

Here are some photos from the past.... We were contracted to transport Jay Leno's Harley signed by many celebrities like Snoop Dogg, Sharon Osbourne, and many others..... This bike traveled to several major cities and we recieved it in, uncrated it and set it up for the show...... Then after the show we would pick it up, crate it and ship it off to the next destination.... Waste Management was the company in charge of the bike for it's travels around the world..... There was a huge acrylic case it sat in while on display at the different venues..... Notice Ganzo trying to be cool sitting on the Harley..... I know the $100,000.00 value placed on it, makes it one of most expensive Harley Davidson in the world..... Vegas Box Bros handled it, Los Angeles Box Bros, New Jersey, San Antonio, Denver and San Diego all had a part in set up and repacking...... Hope everybody enjoys these photos.....

Family fun......

It's that time of year when we start school again and families stop having fun..... Before the fun times stop, I made a trip to New Mexico to visit my brother and his family..... As we grow older it's harder to find the time for our families to get together...... We spent the weekend riding quads and dirt bikes with all the kids..... Here are some photos from the trip..... Oh; and back to work I go..... The trip took 10 hours each way, but was well worth it to see my brother and his family....... That's my wife on her blue Raptor 350 quad.... My brother and his daughter on his CRF450..... My 13 year old on his CRF100..... My son Ryland and his cousin Allison on the little quad.... My trailer that tows all the toys.....
