Daily News Reader's choice Awards

The Daily News is having their readers choice awards for 2011. All votes need to be in by Sunday July 3rd. lets all vote for the best store in the Valley. The Daily News has been doing this for years. Let's finish on the top of the list this year, we can only do this with your help.

Let's get the vote out !!!!

Pack & Ship of Paintings of The Great Outdoors

If you can't get outdoors and you don't get cable, the next best things are paintings and photos. The picture on the top, of the tree with the yellow leaves ,is a great shoot of a tree in the fall. This is something we don't see much of in Southern California. The one on the bottom looks like a photo from Arrowhead or even up north like Tahoe, or it could be Oregon or Washington. The point is unless you go outdoors and like camping or hiking or just a get away, their is nothing like being out in the fresh air, with a running stream with the background of the mountains, any time you get to be with mother nature, you can't go wrong. This is your chance to go out and relax and enjoy the July 4th weekend whether you go to the park or camping, always remember to be safe. And take some photos, so you could look back into time and smile and say they were the good old days. here is a link if you're looking to go camping http://koa.com/ When you get back this will have already been packed and shipped out of Santa Monica

I needed to carry a number of LARGE objects on plane, last minute. Ray was kind enough to pack them up immediately, in an impenetrable fortress of cardboard and tape. I thought it was going to be very expensive, given all the effort and detail Ray put into the project. Turns out, I got away under $10!! My package made to LAX to SFO in perfect condition. Thanks Box Brothers!!!!

Saved. Thanks!

6/25/2011 Oakland, CA

I purchased a rather larger Turkish carpet from Clars Auction Gallery in Oakland, CA recently. Although they do not offer shipping through their company, they had several companies listed on their site that had served previous customers. Only by chance did I contact Box Brothers to ship my carpet.

The caret arrived today and, not only am I very pleased with my purchase, I am extremely pleased with the manner in which it arrived. Not only had been carefully and professionally packed in a shipping box, but also had been sealed in plastic to protect it from any moisture. I also appreciate the professional staff I dealt with while arranging the shipment.

I can only hope that I will have the opportunity to use your fine company again in the future.

Thanks so much.

Box Brothers are the best you can get! For years I have been receiving packages carefully wrapped, packed, and sealed from their careful hands. Their care and attention to each shipment is unmatched.

My mother recently shipped me over a dozen homemade jars of jam to give as gifts, and the only person she trusted to properly wrap and ship them was Ray at Box Brothers. I received them in Oakland (from L.A.) within 2 days time, and all of the jars were neatly nestled, each wrapped in a cocoon of bubble wrap and surrounded in little Styrofoam peantus. It was amazing. The gifts were a hit, thanks to Ray @ Box Brothers!

Also, you don't have to trust us regular folk here on yelp, a bunch of famous assholes are posted up on the walls in the shop, so you know this place is for real. LA for real.

Thanks Ray and Box Brothers, for always making sure my mom's care packages make it to me in perfect condition!

THEY RULE!

Vintage Gas Sign !

Oh the good old days. They say gas prices are going down. It's hard to believe after almost hitting $5.00 per gallon in Los Angeles that they had no place to go but down. After seeing this antique sign with gas prices at .20 cents and a penny tax boy we really miss those days. But when was gas .20 cents you ask? In 1919 gas prices were .25 cents a gallon around the end of world war one. In 1946 it went up to 27 cents a gallon. And stayed below .40 cents until mid 1970. Wow what happened after that? the first 30 years it went up less then .30 cents a gallon the next 30 years it went up over $4.00 where did we go wrong? If you were at the Box Brothers store in Santa Monica today you also would have seen gas prices at .20 for a limited time that is until they packed up this antique sign. here's a link with some fun facts. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ac/20110425/bs_ac/8360093_us_gas_price_history_from_25_cents_to_nearly_5_a_gallon

Antique Paintings Pack, Crate, & Freight

Here are some photos of 2 antique oil paintings that were packed by our Art expert himself Chris G. (very carefully), crated, and shipped freight. The paintings were painted in New York in 1906 by A. Jacobs. The wood crates were made to perfection by Cesar (like usual) at our Warehouse in Inglewood Ca. and shipped out from the store here in Woodland Hills. Another fine custom pack job.

The old foosball guys retiring

I've been playing foosball for years. I never seen guys this old. Foosball was invented in 1921 in the United Kingdom. This is what I'd like to know is spinnig legal? Did you know the ball can go up to speeds up to 35 miles per hour? I'm sure the guys at Box Brothers in Santa Monica know the history behind the 4 last foosball guys. Our Antique specialists show off some of their packaging skills. for more facts on foosball check out the wiki page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Table_football

Say it's not so. Joe. No football ?

Football legend Joe Namath Oil painting is waiting his turn to be packed up. Are they sending him to New Jersey? To replace a Quarterback or is it The NFL strike with wishes of playing with the replacements? We'll see him at the Meadow Lands in New Jersey. Or just walking down the streets of NYC under the bright lites of Broadway. Say it not so.. WE WANT OUR FOOTBALL SEASON !!!

Shredding our way to Greeneer Pastures

Box Brothers is pleased to announce, that all of its locations, will soon be able
to assist our customers with on site shredding services, that will allow us make our planet
a little less full of garbage.

But best of all, we will be giving all of our customers, the first five (5) lbs of shredding
services, free. That is right, free. Yes, you heard me correctly, all Box Brothers customers
can bring in 5 lbs of paper and mail to be shredded, and the first five lbs, is free.

How is that for being green? We challenge all of the Fortune 500 firms who have retail
customers and who do shipping, to do the same: Fed Ex Kinko's, UPS Stores; Staples, Office Max; Office Depot and Home Depot.

If all of our competitors offered five (5) lbs of free shredding to their customers, we could save
millions, tens of millions of pounds of trash from filling our landfills. Lets see if they accept our
challenge, or prefer only to pay lip service making our planet more green.

Their you go Weho 5 Star Yelp Review

Well Dave this is your first review on Yelp and it's a 5 Star
First to Review

I'm in the process of moving from LA to Seattle and needed to get the packing done over Memorial Day weekend. After comparing prices at a couple places, Box Brothers was one of the most reasonably priced. There are lots of locations, but I went to the one located on Santa Monica, just west of La Cienega in WEHO.

I went in Saturday morning and Dave had me out the door with all needed supplies in about an hour. There was parking right in front of the store and they loaded everything into the car for me. Dave made sure I had everything needed and checked this list with me at least twice so I wouldn't have to make several trips. Then at check-out, the bulk prices made it an even better deal than I had estimated.

If you are moving or need special attention for your shipping needs, I'd definately reccomend Box Brothers on Santa Monica.

For great service come visit Dave at:

Debbie Reynolds....the Auction

Box Brothers is pleased to announce its participation in the Debbie Reynolds Auction, to be held
on June 18th, 2011, at the Paley Center for Media, in Beverly Hills.

As a logistics partner of this fine auctioneer, Profiles in Courage, we are proud to participate
in this event, which showcases one of the grand stars of the Golden Hollywood Era

Ms. Reynolds, a veteran star of such films as Singin in the Rain and the Unsinkable Molly Brown,
to hundreds of rolls in theater to television, she has been in the business since her firm debut in
1950.

Some collectors have expressed the opinion that the Debbie Reynolds collection, is one of the world's most significant collections of Hollywood Memorabilia ever amassed. I have read that some of the items included in this auction are: Costumes and props from Gone With the Wind,
The Sound of Music, Singin In the Rain; and Casablanca. Some of the items were worn, not by
her, and they include, outfits worn by Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, Charlton Heston, Elizabeth Taylor, Gene Kelley and Richard Burton, to name a few.

In fact, the auction catalog, put together by Profiles in History, is amazing, with full color pictures
of so many items, the catalog, in full color, is over 300 pages. If anyone is interested in this auction, you can contact the auctioneer, via their website, at www.profilesinhistory.com, for further information.

This should be a signature event for a classic and long term Hollywood star and grand entertainer that we all grew up with and who was one of the biggest stars ever.
We are proud and honored, at Box Brothers, to be able to participate in this event.
